After inheriting a dated looking sapphire cocktail ring from her grandmother, this client turned to Diamonds On The Key for suggestions how to update the ring into a style she would wear.
A contemporary “bypass design” was selected with the orientation of the blue sapphire changed from vertical to horizontal. White gold was selected to offset the blue hue and let the white diamonds sparkle brightly. The worn sapphire was gently unset and sent to a lapidary for oil + polish, to restore its luster and fine color. The round diamonds were unset and sorted into sizes, to be reset into the graduated bypass shank of the new ring design, and the old yellow gold mounting was applied as a scrap gold credit, towards the new design.
