A ring handed down through generations, and estimated to be 100 years old, had seen better days when this client brought it to Diamonds On The Key for evaluation. The client’s mother, who suffered from arthritis, had worn it daily for decades and through clenching her hands over and over, the original delicate filigree designed ring had become “cracked” in several areas, with the entire mounting badly bent to one side, causing the sapphire to become very loose in its halo setting. Skilled artisans worked to create an identical ring mold, carved by hand from wax and cast in 18 karat gold. The original platinum and diamond lattice work and center diamond halo elements were gently carved away and removed by hand from the old setting and “fused” onto the new sturdy ring mounting. The sapphire was cradled much more securely in a thick halo, with under gallery work to hold it in place. The end result was a near identical ring, which the client can now enjoy and wear daily, without the worry of further damage to the ring.
